Some don’t think they’re creative.
Since childhood, we’ve been told that creativity is a genetic trait, like the color of our eyes. And if we try to play music, dance or create art without success, that belief locks in. So we give up.
We think we’d be happier if we were more creative but it’s so easy to get stuck in routine and believe we can’t live differently.
We believe imagination and playing are childhood activities we outgrow when we become adults.
Society focuses on achievement, productivity and external success. Who has time for dreaming when every minute in a day counts? And when culture focuses on products, not process, why brainstorm?
We accept it even though we feel unfulfilled.
I have a secret. Everyone is born creative; we’ve just forgotten how to tap into it. It’s like riding a bicycle or practicing the piano. If you haven’t done it in a long time, it’s easy to forget that you ever could.
You can re-awaken your creativity. The next step is being open to the possibility of change. And believing you are creative.
There is a note posted by my computer that says: The essence of creativity is to look for and find the possible among the impossibilities.
I find I get better at it the more I practice.

What a wonderful ‘mantra’! Do me a favor? Would you mind posting it on Awake Create’s Face Book page?

I’d love for everyone to see it. AND I’m going to post it on my desk so when I walk into my office, I can’t miss reading it! Fran
You’re absolutely right, Fran. This is something best learned from children who think everything is possible, there’s time for everything and nothing is ridiculous. 🙂 Wonderful, sweet eye-opening reminder for everyone!
Hi Fran,
I like that Alice in Wonderland quote about believing in 6 impossible things before breakfast! Creative ideas flow when I’m in nature. If i feel stuck I need to get outside!
Tess….you’re singing to the choir on that one. I’d love for everyone to experience nature as something not separate from themselves….but as a nurturing relationship that feeds the soul. 🙂 Fran
