The Cottage Garden

This is my favorite garden in Sissinghurst. Harold and Vita thought of the Cottage garden as their most intimate garden. It is a room filled with a plethora of foliage and a range of plant colors that includes orange, red and yellow. As the season progresses, the riot of shapes and colors interspersed throughout this area makes visitors feel as if they had happened upon a 'secret joyful paradise'.Over the years, I have spent plenty of hours sitting in the wooden chair in front of the South Cottage, where Vita and Harold each had their bedrooms,gazing upon the glory that lay before me.
