Fragrant Annuals

Looking for some outstanding fragrant flowers for your garden this year?

Here are some at the top of my list. Sweetpea, an old fashioned favorite comes in a wide variety of colors, several of which are heirloom. They’re easily sown in colder weather and give magnificent results by mid-late spring. Sweetpea’s fragrance is intoxicating. Read the back of the package for the description of its scent.

Another must have fragrant flower is Mirabala, commonly known as four o’clock. The plants are 2-3 feet tall and wide with trumpet shaped fragrant single or clustered red, magenta, pink, yellow or white flowers. They open in the evening and wilt the next morning; but they are great bloomers, producing flowers from late spring through fall.

Other favorites? Heliotrope, datura, Dianthus sp., stock and Sweet Alyssum.
