Easy To Do Centerpiece For Any Season

With the advent of the holiday season, our thoughts are filled with holiday menus and festivities. But not to be forgotten are beautiful centerpieces that can be the finishing touch for any gathering or just to make your abode more beautiful. Below are three 'easy to whip together’ arrangements that can be done by anyone; regardless of time, budget or inspirational constraints.

Arrangement #1- Simple Elegance

All you need to begin this project is a clear vase. Go to a farmers market, grocery store or floral stand and purchase a bunch of crisp, budding red flowers of your choice. In the picture, I have selected anemones. Buy a bag of cranberries. Throw the bag of cranberries in the bottom of the vase and then fill vase two thirds full with tepid water. Cut stems of flowers diagonally with sharp scissors or a pruner. Arrange in vase and voila…you have a ‘smart’ looking centerpiece. Can use two or three of these arrangements on a mantel or at a dinner party to make a statement. Also feel free to cut berry stems from your garden in lieu of the red flowers.

Arrangement #2- Autumnal Harvest Centerpiece

Choose a mellow colored vase or container that will not compete against the vibrancy of this arrangement. Go to your local framers market and select a few varieties of flowers or berried shrubs that are long lasting and say ‘autumn’ to you. In this arrangement, I have chosen hypericum, buplerum and some orange straw flowers. Also pick up some mini-gourds at the market. Arrange flowers in a natural way in vase. If you have perennial grasses or branches from your garden that you want to add to or use instead of the bought flowers, feel free to do so. In this arrangement, I have added in dried pods of some sort.

Arrange gourds in a haphazard fashion around base of vase. Pine cones and beautiful leaves from your neighborhood can be used just as effectively as the gourds.

Arrangement #3- Bountiful Veggie Centerpiece

This is such an easy centerpiece to create and a great project to do with kids. Try to use a pedestal cake platter to give this centerpiece the height it deserves. Go to a market or grocery store and buy a variety of veggies in different shapes and sizes. Make sure to buy enough of one kind so that you can layer the complete diameter of the platter with it.. The only other ingredient you will need is toothpicks. Begin to layer veggies on cake plate in an order that pleases your eyes. In the one I created, my first layer was just some romaine lettuce. My second layer was orange peppers divided in half and then on top of that I secured mini-eggplants to the peppers with toothpicks. After that I secured in some radishes as well as a potpourri of mini peppers. With this arrangement, the sky is the limit. Let your eye lead the way. Can place branches, leaves or pinecones around arrangement to enhance the theme of bounty and nature.
