With so much emphasis on eating 5 vegetables a day, why not grow broccoli in your garden this spring? Its benefits are numerous: #1 on the list is that broccoli is considered to be a terrific cancer-fighting vegetable.

Broccoli is easy to grow and offers a wide variety of early season crops….meaning that it thrives in the cooler weather. Work a lot of organic matter, compost and well-rotted manure, into your soil a few weeks before sowing the seed. Sow seeds immediately after the last frost date for your climate. If you want to get a head start, sow seeds five to seven weeks indoors before planting in the garden.

Broccoli is a heavy feeder and does well in rich, loamy soil with a minimum of 6 hours of sun a day.
