Design Theory
Clients of Fran tend to be drawn to her philosophy that by creating a world of beauty and becoming more connected to nature, we tend to place a greater emphasis on community and kindness.

Fran’s designs respect the natural environment. She observes and ‘listens’ to the land before flushing out ideas on paper. Her designs are bold in scale, with an emphasis on firm garden 'bones' and an abundance of carefully selected, hardy perennials; and when needed, woody plants and deciduous and evergreen trees. She creates garden palettes that offer color and texture throughout the year.

Fran has designed gardens throughout the East coast of the United States; as well as a sprinkling of gardens abroad. She has created gardens for individuals with sprawling estates, suburban landscapes, city gardens and windowboxes. Over the years, Fran has also worked at community and school gardens.

Fran wants to pass on her conviction that in order to live a healthier life, emotionally, spiritually and physically, it is critical to have a strong connection to nature. For Fran, gardening ‘to be healthy’ is as important as gardening to 'create beautiful environments'.
